UC officially closed, Dining Services moves to lower campus

March 30, 2007

Now that the University Center is officially closed for renovations, Dining Services has temporarily relocated its main operation to the Columbia Center on lower campus.

Additionally, UC offices and organizations have temporarily moved to new locations across campus. A complete list can be found online at www.plu.edu/~newbuild/university-center/home.html.

Dining Services is also offering a variety of dining options to students, including vouchers to eat at Garfield Street restaurants. For more information, visit www.plu.edu/~dining.

In moving the main dining operation to the Columbia Center, it's likely diners will face limited parking. Increased demand for space on lower campus will likely also impact staff, faculty and students who usually park there. The situation, as described by Tom Huelsbeck, assistant dean for campus life, is “less than ideal,” but temporary.

Huelsbeck outlined a variety of parking options in the lots near the Columbia Center in a memo to administrators, and asked that the campus community keep in mind the situation is temporary.

The best option for reaching Columbia Center, the memo advised, is to walk from elsewhere on campus rather than trying to drive right to the front door. The memo also pointed out that Campus Safety's Escort Shuttle service (at ext. 7441) is available to transport PLU community members who feel uncomfortable walking.
