Vote Monday and Tuesday

The ASPLU general election for executive officers will be held on March 12 and 13.

The election will begin at 8 a.m. on Monday, March 12 and end at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6. All voting will take place online at www.plu.edu/aspluvote. Computers for voting will also be available at tables in the UC, Administration Building, the Morken Center and Rieke Science Center.

Two candidates are running for the top positions. The candidates for president are Shannon Greene and Carl Pierce, and the vice presidential candidates are Jon Morehead and Tamara Power-Drutis.

Junior Shannon Greene is majoring in sociology. She currently serves as the ASPLU at-large senator and residence caucus leader.

During her time at PLU, Greene has served as the clubs and organizations senator and was a wing representative on Pflueger Hall’s residential hall committee. Greene has also hosted prospective students on Passport Weekend and served as a facilitator at the EXPLORE! retreat for first years. Currently, she is the team captain of a team for this year’s Relay for Life and is part of the Harry Potter Party committee.

Junior Carl Pierce is a political science major who is also minoring mathematics. Pierce currently serves as a resident assistant with additional duties in Tinglestad.

Pierce worked as a resident assistant in Foss last year and is an active member of several clubs, including the Sudan interest group, VISION. In his policy statement, Pierce said his experiences have given him “substantial experience in planning events, leading meetings, facilitating discussion, working one-on-one with others, hiring and training fellow student leaders and working constructively within a team.”

Junior Jon Morehead is majoring in mathematics and currently serves as the ASPLU off-campus traditional senator and as the off-campus caucus leader.

Last year, Morehead was the president of Foss Hall and chair of the Community Review Board. The board reviews incidents involving alleged first or second time violations of conduct policies.

Junior Tamara Power-Drutis is a political science and global studies major. She is currently the resident assistant with additional duties of Harstad and worked as a resident assistant in Foss last year.

Power-Drutis has been active in student clubs and organizations, including co-founding and leading Students for Peace and as an elected member of the Appropriations Board. In her policy statement, Power-Drutis said her relationship with Residential Life and clubs and organizations provide “an opportunity for building strong bridges and the foundation for future cooperation.”

In addition to her leadership positions at PLU, Power-Drutis works at the United Way, connecting residents of Pierce County to social and health services. When she studied abroad last spring in Namibia, she worked as an outreach coordinator for Catholic AIDS Action with the townships and informal settlements.
