Caribbean Carnival

March 02, 2007

Dancers and musicians from Trinidad and Tobago brought Carnival to PLU at the grand finale of the two-day “World Conversations: Voices from Around the Globe” event.

The performers exposed the audience to the music and dance of the islands, and showcased their nation’s vibrant cultural diversity and sense of fun and celebration. The show included a steelpan drummer, a Calysonian, and African- and East Indian-inspired dances.

The show began in the University Center at the conclusion of the “Global Café” international dinner. From the UC, Chinese dragons, stilt walkers and the performers led a parade of people across campus to Lagerquist Concert Hall.

World Conversations featured a series of panel discussion by students and faculty on their work while studying off campus. In addition to the Trinidad and Tobago performers, the event also featured former U.S. Vice President Walter Mondale and Ann Jones, an author, journalist and photographer.
