Web site tracks displaced UC residents

March 02, 2007

To prepare for the upcoming renovation of the University Center, the building’s residents are being temporarily relocated to sites across campus.

Some of the clubs, organizations and offices traditionally housed in the UC have already moved, and those that are left will be out of the building by the end of March. After more than 30 years of service, the University Coffee Shop will officially close its doors forever on Friday, March 9.

The campus community is invited to say goodbye to the coffee shop at a grand closing event this Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. At the event, the shop’s staff will prepare your favorite entrees at a reduced price.

Construction begins on the UC’s lower level on March 22, and the building’s doors officially close on March 30.

Construction Management has posted the new locations of UC offices and organizations, and their scheduled move dates online at www.plu.edu/~newbuild/university-center/home.html. A floorplan and artistic renderings of the completed project can also be viewed at the site.

The UC renovation will make the building more student-focused, update and improve the building, as well as provide student organizations with services, offices and recreation areas, a conference center, and catering facilities.
