International Women’s Day event tackles tough topic

March 02, 2007

The Women’s Center and Tacoma’s Women of Vision are teaming up to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8 with a presentation by Seattle attorney Marie Ericson on international sex trafficking.

Ericson will also address the local concerns associated with the issue and offer ways for people to help. The “Coffee and Conversation” event begins at 3 p.m. in room 103 of the Morken Center.

Ericson is an immigration attorney who has researched different facets of human trafficking, including international trafficking rings, U.S. laws and how well they protect victims and effective methods of providing legal services for the victims. Ericson is a member of WashACT, a group of law enforcement, legal and social services providers who work with victims in Washington state.

International Women’s Day is celebrated annually. It acts to connect women worldwide and inspire each to achieve her full potential.
