Choral Arts concert this week
January 26, 2007
Choral Arts, a regionally based chamber choir, will be performing at Lagerquist Concert Hall this Saturday night at 8 p.m.
The choir will be under the direction of Patrick Dupré Quigley, who is an applicant for the permanent director position with Choral Arts. The group was founded in 1993 by PLU faculty member Richard Sparks, who recently stepped down as artistic director.
The program is entitled “From Mourning to Joy,” and covers a wide range of music from the meditative cadence of Plainsong and Thomas Tallis to the exuberance of traditional congregational songs of the African American church, exploring the “musical illustrations of the end of life and the beginning of the next,” according to a press release.
Since its inception in 1993, Choral Arts has received both local and international acclaim for its mastery of style, language and genre. The ensemble performs up to three concert series each season in Tacoma and Seattle.
Tickets for adults are $18 in advance and $20 at the door; seniors are $14 in advance and $16 at the door; and students are $10.
