February 09, 2007

David Joyner, PLU’s director of jazz studies, is kicking off the first in what he hopes will become an annual event this Valentines Day with an Artist Series event dedicated to “Composers of the Great American Songbook.”

The event will be held Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 8 p.m. in Lagerquist Concert Hall. The annual event will feature the works of specific songwriters each year. This year’s featured songwriters are Johnny Mandel, Ray Noble and Bronislaw Kaper. Joyner will play piano and will be joined by guest performers including vocalists Greta Matassa and Dennis Hastings, and Clipper Anderson on bass.
