A record 300 high school students participated the Northwest High School Honor Band concerts held last weekend.
High school students from around the Northwest were nominated by their band directors to participate in the two-day intensive clinic that began last Friday and culminated with two concerts on Saturday in Lagerquist Concert Hall.
The clinics were led by nationally-known conductors Jack Stamp and Ryan Nelson. Stamp worked with the symphonic band students while Nelson worked with the concert band. PLU faculty also held master class sessions with the students.
Stamp is professor of music and the conductor of bands at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He is active as a guest conductor, clinician and composer throughout North America and Great Britain, and his compositions have been commissioned and performed by leading military and university bands across the United States.
Nelson is the associate director of bands at Northwestern University. He coordinates the undergraduate conducting curriculum, teaches courses in music education and wind literature, and serves as a guest conductor, clinician and arranger.
