Volunteers needed for emergency operations center
February 02, 2007
PLU’s Emergency Operations Center is looking for volunteers to be amateur radio operators in the event of an emergency.
Classes will be available for volunteers who have no experience operating radios. The operations center is also interested in hearing from those who are already licensed as amateur radio operators and willing to make the commitment.
Radio operators are crucial for PLU communications to run effectively in the event of an emergency, like an earthquake or the flu pandemic, said Douglas Oakman, dean of humanities and professor of religion.
To learn more, contact Rob Benton in Plant Services at bentonrh@plu.edu or ext. 7928, or Oakman at oakmande@plu.edu or ext. 7317.
