City of Tacoma seeks nominees for volunteer awards

December 08, 2006

The City of Tacoma is looking for PLU volunteers deserving of a City of Destiny Award.

The awards program, in its 21st year in 2007, recognizes community volunteers in a variety of categories. Nomination forms are due Jan. 22, and the awards ceremony will be held May 1.

Nominations may be made for individuals or groups and there are four categories in which volunteer work will be recognized:

Leadership – This category is subdivided into “adult” and “youth” (under 18) subcategories, and is designed to recognize individual leadership that inspires others to help meet a need in the community.
Sustained service – The category is only for adults, and recognizes someone whose service over an extended period of time has benefited the community.
Service – This youth-only category is for dedicated service performed by an individual for a period of time that benefits the community.
Group – This category is for teamwork in a project that benefits the community. There are four subcategories: neighborhood group or community partnership; corporation, business or entrepreneur (initiated by management and staffed by employee volunteers); employee or union group (initiated by employees and staffed by employee volunteers); and youth/young adult group (sponsored or independent; nominee age up to 18).

More information, a nomination form and contact information for more details are available online at www.cityoftacoma.org/cityofdestinyawards.
