Safety forum scheduled

An all-campus safety forum will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Regency Room in response to an off-campus assault incident last Tuesday.

According to an e-mail sent from Campus Safety Director Jesus Villahermosa last Wednesday, the forum will “discuss new details regarding the attack, concerns about personal safety and the university’s continuing commitment to provide a safe, harassment-free environment.”

The incident occurred late Tuesday evening, when a male student was assaulted in the 700 block of 113th Street South. Following the confrontation, the student reported the incident to Campus Safety and a Pierce County Sheriff’s deputy working for PLU took a report. The investigation is ongoing.

The deputy’s report indicates that the assailant approached the student from behind and used threatening, intimidating and demeaning language related to sexual orientation. The student was punched in the face, thrown to the ground and kicked several times.

The student received some abrasions to his face and elbow resulting from the attack. Campus Safety provided first aid and the student declined further medical attention.

The deputy’s report states that the assailant was unknown to the student. The suspect was described as a white male in his twenties, 6-foot, 1-inches tall and approximately 175 pounds. He was reported to be wearing black gym pants, a dark shirt and a black jester cap, and he reportedly has a deep voice and a cleft chin.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact Campus Safety as soon as possible at 253-535-7441.

PLU provides a year-round 24/7 shuttle and escort service. Service can be arranged by calling Campus Safety at ext. 7441 or by using the blue light emergency phones located across campus.
