Welcome to PLU

PLU welcomed the following new employees:

Tomieka Garrett joined PLU as an academic advisor in the academic advising office. After earning a bachelor’s degree in history and women’s studies from PLU, Garrett worked as a college preparation advisor at the Washington Education Foundation at Mount Tahoma High School. She is currently working toward a master’s degree in educational leadership and policy at the University of Washington in Seattle. Garrett enjoys yoga, cycling, reading and spending time with her family.

Lisa Mitchell is the new scheduling coordinator in the Registrar’s Office. She previously worked as a bookseller at Waldenbooks. Mitchell is a PLU graduate, and she likes to spend her time reading and volunteering.

Laree Winer was hired as the administrative assistant in the social sciences division. Winer comes to PLU from Cascade Christian Schools, where she worked for eight years managing the high school’s office, assisting the principal and coordinating special programs. She earned an associate’s degree in office administration from Pierce College and just started a small, personal organizing business called Creative Organization Solutions. Winer enjoys riding motorcycles, reading, hiking and cooking. She has been married to her husband Mike for 22 years, and they have two children, Ross, 16, and Jessica, 21.
