Donate old cell phones to help victims
October 13, 2006
The Women’s Center is collecting old, inactive cell phones to help victims of domestic violence through Oct. 31.
October is National Domestic Violence Awareness month. The center is collecting used phones that will be programmed to reach 911, so domestic violence victims can use them to reach help even if they don’t have a cell phone plan. Additionally, donated phones that are too old or no longer work can be sold to fund programs that help these victims.
“The phones are either reused or sold to benefit the programs that serve victims of domestic violence,” said Bobbi Hughes, director of the Women’s Center.
Donation boxes are located near the coffee cart in Hauge Administration Building, next to the front desks in each residence hall, and in the library, University Center and Morken Center.
Donated phones will be given to the Pierce County Commission Against Domestic Violence. The commission will distribute the phones to agencies that work with victims of domestic violence.
For more information, contact the Women’s Center at ext. 8759 or womencen@plu.edu.
