Land a job with new networking site
September 16, 2006
Career Development launched a new online recruiting site to help PLU students and alumni find jobs after graduation.
The new site, College Central Network, replaced eRecruiting this September. It is easier to use and has updated features, said Kelly David, a career counselor at PLU.
“eRecruiting was a big bear, older and a lot more complicated,” she said. “This new system is a lot easier for students to use.”
After students register at www.collegecentral.com/plu, they can upload their resume and search for jobs posted by local and national employers. Employers follow a similar path, but the Career Development Office must approve their registration before the employer can use the site.
The office wants to make sure the employer is offering a valid job, and that it’s not just a position selling knives door-to-door, David said. Once an employer has been approved, they can post jobs, search uploaded resumes and schedule on-campus recruiting visits, she said. The service is free to students, alumni and employers.
Since the site just launched at the beginning of the academic year, the list of employers is still growing. David said more are added each day, and the list includes employers with jobs available beyond the confines of the Pacific Northwest.
The site also includes articles with tips about writing a resume, interviewing and other job-hunting techniques, she said. Students can find information about upcoming campus events that focus on career development, such as the upcoming Career and Internship Fair at the end of October.
The network is aimed to help students who will be graduating soon, but students at any point in their educational path can register, David said.
“We encourage all students to register to see what the job market is like,” she said.
